Do you have a teenage child with terrible acne problem and low self –esteem? No worries. If you have answered YES to any of these questions, ORTHOMED Clinic and Supply has a perfect solution for you – PhotoFacial. It is fast, safe and effective treatment against signs of aging. To provide you with more information on the essence and benefits of procedure, we have interviewed a licensed aesthetics specialist.

Q: Can you tell me what is PhotoFacial and why it is so popular?
A: IPL PhotoFacial is the perfect solution for many common skin imperfections and is one of our most exciting anti-aging services. PhotoFacials produce evenly-toned skin that looks more youthful. The IPL PhotoFacial can erase skin damage and treat a variety of common skin conditions. This non invasive, non laser method reduces redness and is beneficial for: chronic rosacea, reducing sun damage (solar keratosis), acne scarring, fine lines and wrinkles, and other signs of aging or skin damage.

Q: How does PhotoFacial work?
A: PhotoFacial is applied via a series of gentle light pulses over the treatment area. As the light penetrates the skin it is absorbed by small surface blood vessels or pigmentation. The heat enerated by the absorbed energy causes damage to the vessels or pigmented areas stimulating the body’s own natural healing process. Pigmented lesions will typically darken before they flake off or are absorbed by the body.

Q: What the treatment is like?
A: A cool gel is usually applied to the area prior to treatment. Dark protective glasses will be provided to protect your eyes from the bright light. The smooth glass surface of the handpiece is held to treatment areas and pulses of light are applied. A slight sting may be felt – similar to the light snap of a small rubber band. Treatment is generally administered in a series of procedures that typically range from 10 to 45 minutes.

Q: How many treatments will I need?
A: The number of treatments depends on the size, location, depth and color of the lesion; the patient’s skin type and the level of expected outcomes. Usually, at least 3 treatments are conducted in two week intervals. The good news that there is no down time, and you ill see results from the first treatment.

Q: Are IPL PhotoFacial rejuvenation treatments safe?
A: Yes. Advanced light systems have been used safely for millions of treatments worldwide. These systems treat only the targeted tissues, leaving the surrounding tissue intact. However, some bruising or redness may occur.

Q: What results can I expect?
A: After only one treatment, your skin will have a more even tone with a smoother look and feel. Sunspots will fade. Pore sizes will shrink. Fine lines and wrinkles will gradually decrease in size. These improvements will steadily increase with each treatment. Patients with rosacea will see a progressive decrease in redness with every treatment.

Q: Is PhotoFacial permanent?
A: After completing the PhotoFacial series, healthy new skin cells form, creating the new growth of healthy tissue. Once your desired results are achieved, approximately two to four maintenance treatments, depending on the patient, a year are recommended.

Q: Does it work on broken capillaries?
A: Broken capillaries respond dramatically to PhotoFacial.  After your treatment, dilated or broken blood vessels decrease, gradually fade and slowly disappear.

Q: Does it work on acne scars?
A: Acne scars that have color (red or brown) will appear less severe after PhotoFacial treatment.

Q: Does it minimize pore size?
A: After a series of treatments are completed, the patient will notice improvement in the skin texture and the appearance of enlarged pores.

Q: Can I tan during the treatment series?
A: An extreme sun exposure is not recommended. A patient who has casual sun may be treated. It is always advised to apply sun block to treatment areas to insure maximum results.

Q: Can you treat other areas of the body besides the face?
A: Yes, many areas can be treated. The neck, chest, shoulders, forearms and hands are the most commonly treated.

Q: Who should not have the procedure?
A: A PhotoFacial is not advisable for patients with connective tissue disease or autoimmune disorders. It is not advisable for pregnant women, nor is it safe for recently sun-tanned skin. It should not be performed on patients taking Accutane or for six months after stopping Accutane. Most photosensitive medications such as antibiotics, anti anxiety, sulfa drugs, birth control pills and anti-hypertensive medications are not a concern.

Q: Is there anything else you would like to add for our readers?
A: Yes, please always deal with professionals when it comes to PhotoFacial and other IPL procedures. Keep in mind that if the technician is not trained or has no biological background, you can end up with a nasty burn on your skin.

I decided to have a PhotoFacial treatment due to broken capillaries around my nose and cheeks. After my first visit I realized how many freckles and age spots I had; then a few days later they were gone. What a bonus! I love the compliments I am getting on my skin and I would recommend PhotoFacials to anyone.                                                       Daya, 35

When I first came, I had very dark brown spots on my face from all the sun tanning that I enjoyed back home. Now, it is so much better!  I couldn’t believe how much the treatments have cleared up my skin. I rarely wear foundation anymore because my skin is so clear. I would recommend this treatment to anyone, especially if you have brown spots or a damaged complexion.                                                                                                           Nisha, 28

My teenage daughter has acne, she squeezes the pimples and is left with bad looking scars. PhotoFacials has helped my daughter to regain her confidence, she doesn’t hide her face anymore, she is always smiling. I am glad that I brought her to Orthomed for treatments.                                                                                                                    Manika, 52
